About the Overtime Risk Calculator
Overtime charges are the single most common surprise on party-bus bills, often running 1.5x to 2x the base hourly rate. This calculator scores your itinerary against the most common overtime triggers — too many stops, ambitious dwell times, late-night returns — so you know if you are likely to push past your booked hours before you sign the contract. Catching the risk early is far cheaper than negotiating an overage bill on the curb at 3am.
Risk score combines stop count, planned hours, and event type. Bar crawls and tailgates run highest risk because real-world events almost always run long. Weddings and corporate transfers score lower because they have fixed end times. A "high risk" score does not mean cancel — it means either pre-book an extra hour at the regular rate (much cheaper) or accept that overtime is part of the budget. Either is fine; the surprise is the problem.
This tool estimates risk only — it does not negotiate overtime caps with the operator. The single best protection is asking your operator for a written overtime rate before signing the rental contract. Many operators charge in 30-minute increments; some charge full-hour increments — that detail alone can swing your overage bill by hundreds of dollars on the same total minutes of overage. Bus2Ride quotes spell this out upfront.
